History of Emperor Ashoka

Chakravarti emperor Ashoka was the great emperor of the world famous and powerful Indian Mauryan dynasty.The full name of Emperor Ashoka was Devanpriya Ashok Maurya (the beloved of King Priyadarshi Deities). His reign was 269 to 232 BC in Ancient India.
Chakravarti Emperor Ashoka of Maurya Dynasty ruled the Akhand India (All India) and his Mauryan empire reached from the ranges of Hindukush in the north to the south of the Godavari river in the south and Mysore in the south and from east to Bangladesh in the west, Afghanistan, Iran.



Emperor Ashoka's empire was on the vast majority of today's entire India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, this vast empire has been the largest Indian empire since then. The Chakravarti emperor Ashoka has always been in the top of all the world's great and powerful emperors and royals.

Emperor Ashoka was the most powerful and great emperor of India. Emperor Ashoka is called 'Chakravarti Emperor Ashoka', which means - 'Emperor of the Emperors', and this place has got only Emperor Ashoka in India. Emperor Asoka is also known for promoting the better skilled administration of his wide empire and the promotion of Buddhism.

Emperor Ashoka as a Buddhist campaigner

Emperor Ashoka has promoted  Buddhism throughout Asia and also in all the other continents of today. Columns and inscriptions of Emperor Ashoka's reference still appear in many places in India. Therefore, the historical information of Emperor Ashoka is found in a broader form than any emperor or king. Emperor Ashok was a true supporter of love, tolerance, truth, non-violence and vegetarian life-style, Hence his name has been recorded in the form of a great benevolent emperor in history.


In the latter part of life, Emperor Ashoka became Buddhist after being influenced by Lord Buddha's humanitarian teachings and in the memory of them, he set up many columns, which still exist in Nepal, in his birthplace - Lumbini - near Mayadevi Temple, Sarnath, Bodh Gaya, Kushinagar and Sri Lanka, Thailand, China etc Ashoka Pillar can still be seen as   in these countries.

At the same time, 23 universities were established in the time of Emperor Asoka, including Takshshila, Nalanda, Vikramshila, Kandhar etc. In these universities many students from abroad used to come to India to get education. These universities were the   Excellent University at that time.The first ruler to start the inscription was Ashoka.

Early Life of Emperor Ashoka

Chakravarty Ashoka was the son of Emperor Bindusara and Rani Dharma. In the tradition of Lanka, Bindusara had sixteen queens and 101 sons. There are only three names in the sons, these are - Susim,who was the eldest, Ashok and Tishi. Tishya was the half brother of Ashok and the youngest amongst all. One day Dharma dreamed that her son would become a great emperor.


After that, King Bindusara made Dharma his queen. Since she (Dharma) was not from the Kshatriyas family, so he had no special place in the Royal Family.Ashoka had many of his Step brothers sisters.They had stiff competition in childhood.Ashoka is said to have been proficient in military activities since childhood.



After two thousand years, the influence of Emperor Ashoka can be seen in Asia mainly in the Indian subcontinent.The symbolic mark engraved in the Ashoka period, which we also know as 'Ashok mark', is today the national symbol of India.In the history of Buddhism,After the Mahatma Buddha, the place Is considered only to King Ashoka.



Empire-expansion

Ashok's eldest brother Sushim was then the provincial governor of Takshshila. Many people of Indian-Greek origin lived in Takshshila. This area was suitable for revolt.Due to the inefficient administration of Sushim, rebellion flourished in that area too. On the advice of Sushim, King Bindusara sent Prince Ashok to demolish the uprising of rebels.


With the fame of Ashoka, his brother Sushim realized the risk of not getting the throne. By asking Emperor Bindusara, he put Ashoka in exile. Ashoka went to Kalinga.There he fell in love with the princess Korvaki of the Matsya kingdom.According to recent findings, Ashoka made her third or second queen.



Meanwhile there had been revolt in Ujjain.Ashoka was called by Emperor Bindusara from exile and sent to Suppress the rebellion.Although its commanders suppressed the revolt but its identity was kept secret.Because according to information from detectives spread by the Mauryas,Ashoka's life was in threat from his brother Sushim.He lived with the Buddhist monks. In the meantime, he came to know of Buddhist law and teachings. Here a beautiful girl, whose name was Devi, fall in love with her. After recovering, Ashoka married her.



After a few years, people fed up with Sushim encouraged Ashoka to take control of the throne, because the emperor Bindusara were old and sick. When he was in ashram, he got news that his mother was killed by his half-brothers, then he went to the palace and killed all his half-brothers and became emperor.



As soon as took power,Ashoka started spreading his empire in both East and West direction. He expanded the empire from modern Assam to Iran's border in only eight years.





The adoption of Buddhism

Due to the loss and genocide of Kalinga war and, he got bored with war and he Got upset by his actions.100,000 people were killed in this war.He realized that he committed a great sin.To overcome this grief, he came closer to Buddha's teachings and in the end he accepted Buddhism.


After accepting Buddhism, he also tried to bring it to his life. He stopped hunting and killing animals.He started giving donations to Brahmins(Scholar) and sannyasis (People living away from family life) of other Sect .For the welfare of the people, he also built the schools, hospitals and roads.



He also sent religion campaigners to Nepal, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Syria, Egypt and Greece to promote Buddhism. For this work, he also sent his son and daughter on tour.Ashoka's son Mahendar got the most success in the campaign of religion.Mahendra conferred King Tiss of Sri Lanka in Buddhism, and Tiss made Buddhism its own monarchy, and inspired by Ashoka, he gave himself the title of 'Devanampirya'.



During Ashoka's reign, the third Buddhist music gathering was organized in Pataliputra, which was presided by Mogali son Tishya. It was here that 'Abhidhammpitak' was composed and Buddhist monks were sent to different countries, including Ashok's son Mahendra and daughter Sanghamitra, who were sent to Sri Lanka.



Ashok is a world-renowned and incomparable emperor for non-violence, peace and public welfare policies.





Inscriptions

33 records have been received,built by Ashok which was engraved on the pillars, rocks and caves by Ashoka from his 269 BC to the reign of 231 BC.These are found in places of modern Bangladesh, India, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nepal and are among the oldest evidence of Buddhism's existence.


According to these inscriptions, attempts to spread the Buddhism of Ashoka were active to the Mediterranean sea region and were well aware of the political conditions of Egypt and Greece.In these, the emphasis on the nuances of Buddhism is less and learn people to live an ideal life is more.In Eastern areas this order was written using the Brahmi script in ancient Magadhi language.In the inscriptions of western areas, the language is similar to Sanskrit and the Kharosthi script is used.Greek language has been used in an inscription, whereas in another inscription Greek and Aramaic language has a bilingual order is filed.





Death of Ashoka

Ashoka ruled for almost 40 years, after which he died in approximately 236 BC. She had many children and wives, but she does not know much about them. His son Mahendra and daughter Sanghamitra contributed to the propagation of Buddhism.After Ashoka's death, the Mauryan dynasty lasted for nearly 50 years.


He was the grandson of the great and mighty ruler Emperor Chandragupta Maurya.Overall Mauryan ruled for 137 years.
